Dreamers

Note: Regarding (if I remember rightly) the GM response to zombie scripters sitting outside the Crossing Moon Mage Guild Hall, wherein they had the important NPCs of the Guild get all up in arms over it and start threatening sanctions that would possibly restrict our spell casting abilities. It's all rather fuzzy now.

Half of my life was spent in the pages
Of all these books by scholars and sages
Lifting my eyes I look to the sky
But looking back down and seeing this place
I realize that I don't know any face
In this sea of moon's movements

So few of them seem able to help me
I've preached too long of this decree
Bids for wisdom, moderation
How can they listen when they still dream
Movements so much like puppets they seem
Reflections of moonlight, not real

How can I escape this place
Of dreaming zombies without face
How can I awaken those who'd
Prefer to sleep through time

Ezrebet now tells us that we are weak
Greater knowledge we don't deserve to seek
Our power in immature minds
I know she would have liked to have seen
Everything taken from us, all demeaned
Full of knowledge unable to use

To have us as helpless, berefit, alone
By excess of those she'd not condone
Though she'd punish us all gladly
To force us to waken the dreamers around
To see that the sleepers no longer abound
Who suffocate this guild or harm it

How can I rebuild this place
Of dreaming zombies without face
How can I awake those who'd
Prefer to doze through time

Thorrick—more lenient in heart and mind
Who thought inside of ourselves we'd find
The strength to call back our own
His greater hope for The Crossing's fate
On the crack in winter ice we skate
That should hold if we share burdens

Taramine too gave pause and thought
That maybe those he'd seen as caught
Would offer themselves up as wrong
But lacking this offer a deal was made
The plans of this guild were then relaid
Like a noose around our necks

How can I relieve this place
Of dreaming zombies without face
How can I awaken those who'd
Prefer to float through time

The shadowy noose lies lightly now
If reason ne'er given we'll not see how
The punishments will fall among us
Burdens shared among us all will lie
Less heavily once we learn to rely
On ourselves and cooperation

All must needs check with further care
Or into the gaping void we'll stare
On mistakes and tainted sins
Seek not the sky for boredom's sake
We've turned our backs on our mistakes
We must wash away the taint

How can I repair this place
Of dreaming zombies without face
How can I awaken those who'd
Prefer to slide through time

Every one of us can lose
The right to chastise and accuse
When we first fail the pact
Waste not time on recriminations
Or anger on whining abominations
But teach the youngings right

These final thoughts from this my mind
And to myself I would remind
Self-righteousness is a pose
All here are not perfect mages
The scholars here are not our sages
In the quest we seek for truth
